Step 3: Make Your Blog Your Own
Now that you have given your blog a new look and feel, let’s make it your own…

There are a range of things you can do to your blog behind the scenes.
Two key areas to focus on are the OPTIONS and the BLOGROLL.
a. Options
By clicking on the “Options” Tab, you will see a list of sub-areas. The key areas to explore are “General”, “Writing”, “Reading” and “Privacy”.
Let’s look at each:
- General Options - this is where you can change your blog title and tagline. Your tagline explains a bit more about the purpose of your blog. You can also change your membership requirements or edit your email address. Check the time and date on this page too.
- Writing Options - this is where you can change the size of your post box and default categories. Since we are just getting started, remember this for later!
- Reading Options - the main change that can be made here is changing your Front Page from your blog (which you might update daily) to a static page, where you might welcome readers and explain a bit about what they might be reading and discussing. Again, this can be left until later!
- Privacy Options - this allows you to change the visibility of your blog. If you only want a select few to access your blog you can change it here.
B. Blogroll
The Blogroll is an important part of your blog.
It allows you to put instant links into your sidebar. These links can be to friends’ blogs or to other resources that are important to your big day. If you are getting married in another state, for example, you might put in links to your future destination’s key attractions or online weather and accommodation options. Click on the “Blogroll” tab and type in or copy and paste the chosen links.
Note: You can also UPGRADE your blog for enhanced functionality. You will need to purchase credits from Wordpress to do so. Some of the enhancements include having more than 35 users and increasing your space for more uploads.
To find out more about upgrades, go to Wordpress’ F.A.Qs on Upgrades.
